Shackleton is one of the three main Halls of Residence located at the Vale. Lake Wing (men) and Wyddrington Wing (women) is the two wings which forms the hall. The Hall also has an annexe of several flats located at Maple Bank, approximately 150 metres away from Shackleton Hall. Residents of these flats, called hall-related flats are full members of Shackleton Hall and has all the privileges to use the facilities provided in the hall.
All ground floor facilities Hall are shared. These includes the Bar, dining room, Lake Wing JCR (games room), Lake Wing reading room, Wyddrington Wing JCR (TV Lounge), music room, the Hall Shop. A Computer Room is also provided which is networked and contains scanning and printing facilities. The games room has pool, pinball and other games while the TV lounge has satellite facilities and a surround sound system.
The community also excels in the Inter-Departmental Sports League which includes sports like football, netball, hockey and basketball. All activities and social programmes are jointly organised by the Junior Common Room (JCR) Executive committee and also joint social programmes. Events includes trips to Amsterdam, Alton Towers, live bands, discos, formal dinners, the "At Home", and the May Ball. Besides that, the Music & Drama Society (MADSOC) organises all the music and drama events that takes place in the hall
